about

John Bartholomeusz and Nad Budge met 41 years ago, both in their 20s whilst working in a secondary school in Melbourne. John had moved to the city from the country and found it hard to get used to city life, and Nad was working a second job in a bar to make ends meet. Lonesome Valley is a bringing together of their two lives when they met. Luckily now John is used to the city life and Nadine no longer has to wait tables to make ends meet!

lyrics

At the tender age of 18 years I left my family home
Drawn to the city like water to the moon
Where I’m waiting tables 9 to 5
Pulling beers at night
Closing time could never come too soon

Yeah, I started at the bottom and worked my way back down
Living on the outer limits of my pay
All my dreams were like the cargo ships I could see from off the bridge
Close enough until they sailed away
To my country friends, I’m living out the dream
But the high life isn’t always what it seems

Oh Lonesome Valley, I’m coming back to die in your arms
Mumma come on down anddrag me out of this ol’ town
Turn your wheels around and take me home

On the streets of the city my dreams were bought and sold
But in the end it led back to the fold

Oh Lonesome Valley, I’m coming back to die in your arms
So mumma come on down, drag me out of this ol’ town
Turn your wheels around, yeah, turn your wheels around,
Turn your wheels around and take me –
Oh Lonesome Valley, I’m coming back to die in your arms
So mumma come on down, drag me out of this ol’ town
Yeah, turn your wheels around, turn your wheels around,
Turn your wheels around and take me home

The Stetson Family walk the line between alt-country and bluegrass with their free-wheeling, spirited songs, awash with soaring harmonies. Described as "champions of fresh bluegrass but with a bedraggled soul of rock and roots," the band takes their audience on a journey down life's crooked highway.

"They blend like one of the legendary bluegrass or country families…” American Songwriter
